Andre Iguodala Gets Real On His Career: “I Had Really Good Days This Year, But The Body Just Wouldn’t Hold Up…”

4x NBA champion Andre Iguodala is in the final chapter of his career, and he knows it. After helping deliver three titles to the Warriors before, he left the team and joined the Heat for a few seasons before making his way back.

And now that he’s a champion again, Iguodala finds himself reflecting on the moment, his career, and his future in the league as a 38-year-old veteran.

“Things happen for a reason,” Iguodala said, via Ira Winderman of the South Florida SunSentinel. “And me going to Miami and experiencing the Miami Heat culture, that really helped me come back and then accept the role I had.

“Like I had really good days this year, but the body just wouldn’t hold up. But I knew that I could still be impactful and I still knew that we couldn’t let this year get by.”

True, Iguodala is not a star, and the Warriors can afford to lose his services this offseason. Still, Iggy has been an important member of the team for years and proved it back in 2015, when he won Finals MVP.

“As I said, I think it was well deserved,” said Iguodala looking back on the 2015 Finals. “I just made the most of the opportunity. The scheme was set up for me to beat (James). And that doesn’t happen too often in the finals. Normally it’s the guy who’s the favorite, (who has) the odds, those are the guys who always get the NBA Finals MVP. And I think that I just made the most of the opportunity.”

It’s hard to say for sure whether or not Iguodala will re-join Golden State next season. If he does want to play for another year, though, you can expect the Warriors to welcome him back with open arms.

For now, all they are worried about is celebrating the championship and appreciating the moment.
