The Los Angeles Lakers were in significant turmoil before their latest run of wins, with the team failing to cope with Anthony Davis’ absence initially. Davis picked up a foot injury in his right foot just as he was showing what he’s capable of once again, and it set the team back a fair bit. But the latest update on the big man is quite promising.

Anthony Davis has missed the last 12 games for the Los Angeles Lakers, leaving LeBron James to carry the burden by himself. While the King hasn’t been entirely happy with the way things are happening for the Lakers, his performance on the court has stayed supreme. And with the Lakers seemingly clicking again, a returning Anthony Davis would provide a massive boost, which according to ESPN, is now not that far away.

“The pain in Anthony Davis’ right foot continues to subside and the Los Angeles Lakers star plans to begin the ramp-up process to return to play when the team returns to L.A. this week, league sources told ESPN.

“The ramp-up process will involve aquatic pool workouts and running on an altered-gravity treadmill to keep the big man’s full weight off his foot while it continues to heal, sources said.

“There is optimism within the Lakers that the ramp-up process could take only a couple of weeks before Davis could start penciling in a potential return to game action, sources told ESPN.”

Before he picked up the injury, Anthony Davis had entered the MVP conversation with the way he was playing. If the Lakers can continue to win and stay around .500 till he’s back, then this season could turn around quickly for them. And if they can pull off trades for some good assets, the team might even have a legitimate shot at making some noise in the playoffs.

What Game Could Anthony Davis Return For?

With his ramp-up process taking two weeks, Anthony Davis could be back on the court as soon as the end of January. The Lakers have two big games towards the end of the month, one against the Boston Celtics on the 28th and the next against the Brooklyn Nets on the 30th.

Having AD back for those games and potentially winning them could make all the difference for the Los Angeles Lakers in terms of momentum. Many have laughed at the franchise and the roster for their struggles so far, but if Anthony Davis returns in MVP form, the Lakers might be the ones getting the last laugh.
