Anthony Edwards Boldly Says He’s An All-Star This Season

Anthony Edwards believes he should be an All-Star this season, although the votes so far would suggest he won't be.

Anthony Edwards is just 21 but he’s in his 3rd season in the NBA already and is considered one of the league’s premier young talents. Playing for the Minnesota Timberwolves, many consider him to be the key to the franchise and their hopes for success. And Edwards has shown improvement every year, which would suggest that he could be the answer for the Wolves moving forward.

The Minnesota Timberwolves have been one of the league’s big disappointments so far this season though, with the team struggling to win games consistently. Anthony Edwards is individually averaging nearly 24 points and 6 rebounds per game, but the team is barely hanging on to a play-in spot in the Western Conference. The Rudy Gobert trade hasn’t worked like they imagined it would, and it’s taken some shine off of Edwards, who thinks he should be an All-Star this season.

“I feel like I’m an All-Star. But I guess a lot of people don’t,” Edwards said, per Jon Krawczynski. “That’s cool. I ain’t trippin, man. I just want to get to the playoffs. I don’t really care.

“As long as we get to the playoffs, I don’t care how we do it. Long we as we get there, 8 seed, 7 seed, 6 seed, I don’t care how we do it. As long as we get there, that’s all I care about.”

It’s safe to say that if Edwards truly didn’t care about the way things are going, he wouldn’t have come out and spoken about it so openly. Having said that, he is right that team success is the main goal for Minnesota this season. And as a guard in the Western Conference, it’s always going to be hard for Edwards to make it to the All-Star team.

Does Anthony Edwards Deserve To Be An All-Star In The Western Conference

When it comes to raw numbers, 24 points and 6 rebounds per game are All-Star stats for sure. However, considering the top 4 guards in the Western Conference, it’s hard to see who Edwards would be picked ahead of. Stephen Curry has struggled with injury but was having an MVP season before that and is back now. Luka Doncic is a frontrunner for the MVP award, easily a top 3 player in the league at the moment.

Ja Morant is leading the Memphis Grizzlies to possibly the top seed in the Western Conference while Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has put up insane raw stats while carrying a young Oklahoma City Thunder to within reach of a play-in spot. It suits Edwards to believe in himself but even if he doesn’t make it to the All-Star Game, it would be far from the biggest snub in NBA history.
