Boston Celtics’ big man Enes Kanter is not stopping his fight for freedom around the world. The NBA’s center is becoming more vocal about these issues, offering his voice to the voiceless, and taking his platform to fight for those who can express their frustrations.

After several weeks of calling out big names like Los Angeles Lakers’ LeBron James, Chicago Bulls legend and current Charlotte Hornets owner Michael Jordan, and Brooklyn Nets owner Joe Tsai; the Turkish player is now legally changing his name to show his commitment to liberty.

According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, the veteran is using ‘Freedom’ as his new last name, as he becomes a United States citizen this Monday.

Boston Celtics center Enes Kanter is legally changing his name to Enes Kanter Freedom. Kanter will be his middle name, Freedom is his new last name. He becomes a U.S. citizen on Monday.

This is not the first time we see this happening in the NBA. Lew Alcindor changed his name to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in 1971, the year where he won his first championship. Ron Artest changed his name to Metta World Peace first and now goes by Metta Sandiford Artest. They did it for different reasons and now Kanter is joining them.

He’s become a public enemy in his home country, but that hasn’t stopped him from fighting for other people’s freedom. This is a big gesture from Kanter and it shows his commitment to the cause.
