There was a time when Carlos Boozer rented his house to the late iconic singer, Prince, in 2004 and had an interesting story to share when the latter was living in his plush 10-bedroom West Hollywood home.
Per media outlets, the ‘Purple Rain’ star paid a whopping $70,000 as rent. While at it, he also decorated the home in his own unique style, much to Boozer’s chagrin.
The power forward relived the entire story while also lauding the singer for knowing “how to live.” Speaking to the Chicago Tribune, Boozer revealed how Prince had his own interior decor ideas for the house that led to him filing a suit against the singer.
The filing said Prince had violated the eight-month lease by painting the exterior with purple striping, the trademark ‘prince’ symbol, and number 3121 (after one of his albums)
“He made it purple,” Boozer said. “He wanted to put his personal touch on it because he wanted to make it feel like home. I was kind of worried about that when I saw the house. But Prince was great. I had a conversation with him. He changed everything back the way it was before he moved out.
“He did some very specific things that were built for him and his lifestyle, which is very different than mine.”
The suit added that a purple monogrammed carpet adorned the master bedroom along with plumbing “for water transfer for beauty salon chairs.”
Carlos Boozer Had Good Things To Say About Prince
The former Chicago Bulls star was also lavish in his praise for the late singer and said he had caught his concert with his parents at the Madison Square Garden once.
Speaking to the outlet, he also spoke of his music and said the duo met a couple of times in New York.
“We had a good time at a lounge. He’s a great dude. He’s very humble. He has a great spirit about him.”
Boozer, a two-time NBA All-Star, was widely regarded as one of the best power forwards during his time in the league. He was also part of the Olympics unit in 2008 and was key in Team USA’s gold run that was studded with star names in Kobe Bryant and LeBron James.
