As a solid scoring veteran with 19 years of experience, Carmelo Anthony is a player that every team should be looking to sign this summer.
And while things have been quiet for Melo so far this summer, that could be changing now due to developments in the Kevin Durant sweepstakes.
One team that Anthony may be open to joining is apparently the New York Knicks, who previously housed Melo for seven years.
“I have certainly heard that Carmelo’s got interest in a reunion,” NBA insider Jake Fischer said. “I don’t know if the Knicks have much interest there.”
Obviously, bringing back a 38-year-old Carmelo Anthony isn’t very high on New York’s wish list, but there are rumblings that they are open to a reunion with their former franchise player.
Five years after his departure from the Knicks, Carmelo Anthony could be on the verge of a major homecoming. According to the New York Post’s Marc Berman, the Knicks are considering a pursuit of the All-Star scorer this summer.
He did also note that signing Anthony is not the team’s first priority.
“According to a source, Knicks brass has had internal conversations about Anthony,” Berman said. “Though more pressing concerns about how to rebuild a franchise that’s missed the playoffs eight of the past nine years have taken precedence.”
Melo isn’t going to average 28 a night as he used to in his prime, but he is a guy who can score a quick bucket or two off the bench. He can also help spread the floor for guys like Julius Randle, Mitchell Robinson, and RJ Barrett.
No doubt, we are witnessing the last stages of Carmelo’s NBA journey. How cool would it be if he ended it all with the team we associate him the most with?
