Five years after his departure from the Knicks, Carmelo Anthony could be on the verge of a major homecoming. According to the New York Post’s Marc Berman, the Knicks are considering a pursuit of the All-Star scorer this summer.

He did also note that signing Anthony is not the team’s first priority.

“According to a source, Knicks brass has had internal conversations about Anthony,” Berman said. “Though more pressing concerns about how to rebuild a franchise that’s missed the playoffs eight of the past nine years have taken precedence.”

It makes sense that the Knicks would consider bringing back Melo. He was beloved by the city and the fans, and he was the last true star to call the franchise his home.

But how does Anthony feel about a return? It’s no secret that he has a special connection to New York City and it took a lot for him to leave in the first place. It seems like Carmelo would seriously consider donning the Orange and Blue again. In fact, he nearly signed with them last year before joining the Lakers.

In the end, he chose to join the Purple and Gold in Los Angeles, with the hopes that he could finally add a Champion to his already illustrious resume.

But, as the 18-year veteran revealed on ‘Posted Up’ with Chris Haynes, he did consider returning to Madison Square Garden this summer.

“It was (hard) because I had just moved and bought a house in New York,” Anthony said. “It was unexpected. My son starts school (today) in New York. So it was like, I’m here, I’m home. I never expected the Lakers to call.”

Anthony isn’t the player he used to be. He is not a star and he wouldn’t be the solution to the Knicks’ problems. He would, however, be a powerful voice to the young players, a solid scorer off the bench, and a reason for Knicks fans to be excited about the upcoming campaign.

After averaging 13.3 points per game for the Lakers this past season, Anthony proved he can still play at a high level in the NBA, and the Knicks are just one team that could use what he provides on the court.
