The Los Angeles Lakers are getting ready to face a 2022/23 NBA season, where they’ll have many challenges. Starting from Russell Westbrook’s fit with LeBron James and his relationship with the King, and finishing with the role players that they have, who don’t look like they’re good enough to compete for a championship.

Nevertheless, new head coach Darvin Ham is confident that the team can make things happen now that he’s in charge, and hasn’t hesitated to push his players to give their best to make the Lakers a competitive team again. He has said great things about Russell Westbrook, but the point guard isn’t the only one getting praised by Ham.

During a recent appearance on All the Smoke (via ClutchPoints), Darvin Ham mentioned the most important player for the Lakers this upcoming season. It wasn’t Brodie or LeBron James. He went with Anthony Davis as the key factor for the Purple and Gold next year.

“This is not going to work without AD. No disrespect to Bron, no disrespect to Russ. They’re going to be who they are. Bron is going to continue to be great, Russ is going to have a much, much better season, but AD, having AD available, especially with the guys we (Lakers) just signed, the young guys, it’s going to be invaluable.”

Ever since he won the 2020 NBA championship in the bubble, Davis has struggled to get things going in the league. Injuries have been ruthless with him, but the player and those around him are still confident he can bounce back and show why he’s one of the best players in the league.

Next season will be tough for the Lakers, but if they can go back to winning ways, things will get a lot better for them. Right now, they have a lot in their hands, but their new head coach believes the only way is up from now on.
