DeMar DeRozan Reveals He Almost Joined The Clippers In The Offseason: “It Could’ve Been A Day Earlier, It Would’ve Worked.”

DeMar DeRozan is having an incredible season with the surprising Chicago Bulls, taking them to the 4th seed in the Eastern Conference, becoming one of the biggest stories of this season.

He was linked with a move to the Los Angeles Lakers, as he wanted to return home, but the Purple and Gold refused to offer him the contract he desired. The Bulls saw their chance and took it, creating a terrific duo with Zach LaVine at United Center.

However, DeRozan could also join the other Los Angelenos team. While talking with Serge Ibaka, the veteran forward revealed he discussed joining the Los Angeles Clippers with Paul George, trying to find a way to get him to SoCal last offseason.

“It could’ve been a day earlier, it would’ve worked. It really was a real possibility. I talked with Paul George about it, we was really trying to figure it out to make it happen. No bullshit.”

He also joked about teaming up with Kyle Lowry in L.A., saying that he would take a pay cut if he had the chance to play with Lowry again. Knowing the relationship of these two, that looked like a very likely possibility, but DeRozan and Ibaka shut down that idea.

Serge Ibaka: “If Kyle Lowry was here with the Clippers, would you take [a pay cut]?”

DeMar DeRozan: “I probably would’ve taken a 10-15% pay cut. But if Kyle was there, there really wouldn’t be no money.”

Serge: “Kyle’s gonna take everything.”

It would have been great to see DeRozan joining forces with Paul George and Kawhi Leonard. The Clippers have played great basketball this season despite not having their star duo on the court. If they had the Bulls star on their roster, things would have been a lot better.

This is part of the past now and there’s nothing we can do to see how he would have fared with the Clips.
