The Cleveland Cavaliers are currently one of the best teams in the NBA. After their sensational win against the Chicago Bulls, they now have a record of 24-14 and hold the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference. While the entire Cavs team is playing great this season, the majority of the credit for their success goes to none other than Donovan Mitchell.
The Cavaliers went all-in to trade for Donovan Mitchell, and many doubted the franchise’s decision to do so. But Mitchell has been proving his doubters wrong throughout the season. Mitchell further did so after dropping a career-high 71 points against the Bulls.
Spida’s performance was enough for the Cavaliers to win the game and improve their record. But apart from scoring 71 points, Mitchell also dished out 11 assists.

Mitchell’s 71-point outburst got him a place in the history books. According to an advanced stat called Game Score, he had the third-best game in the history of the league behind Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant.
But that’s just the tip of the iceberg of Mitchell’s achievements. He also climbed the second spot in scoring or assisting the most points in a game. The number one spot is unsurprisingly held by Wilt Chamberlain.

This was truly a historic performance from Mitchell. He is currently averaging 29.3 PPG, 3.9 RPG, and 4.3 APG for the Cavaliers this season. Keeping those averages in mind, it will not be a surprise if Mitchell is one of the prime contenders to win the regular season MVP award this season.
While that will certainly be a great achievement for him, an even greater one would be leading the Cavaliers to win the NBA Championship.
