There was elation for Draymond Green after the Golden State Warriors won the 2022 NBA championship but everything leading up to it was incredibly rough. He had a poor start to the NBA Finals which led to widespread criticism that he struggled to deal with.

The bigger issue though was the reception he got from Boston Celtics fans in Game 3. Draymond’s antics in the two previous games had made him the public enemy no. 1 in Boston and they greeted him with “F*** Draymond Green” chants, which his wife, in particular, had a huge issue with

Commissioner Adam Silver didn’t take it too seriously, as he indicated that fans should be allowed to have some fun. Green later stated though that some people crossed the line and used the n-word as well. He recently sat down for an interview with The New York Times Magazine, where he criticized the NBA for glorifying the incident and added that he had never heard that many racist remarks while on the court.

via New York Times Magazine:

“The things that were chanted at me were even glorified by our league,” Green said. “I watched people from our league say it’s OK and a part of the game.”

“It was way more nasty than I had ever seen before. I had never openly heard so many racist remarks while on the court,” Green added. “That made it a little different. But as far as heckling, it’s not that it doesn’t bother you, it’s how often are you going to let it bother you?”

If he really was subjected to racial abuse you have to wonder why action hasn’t been taken by the Celtics or the NBA. There is no excuse whatsoever for it and the fans in question should be punished for their actions. Boston, unfortunately, has developed a reputation for this over the years and it is sad to see that he had to go through something like that.

Could We Get A Celtics-Warriors Rematch?

Before the season started, many would have said that a rematch between these two in the Finals is likely to happen. Both teams had retained basically all their key players and had made some good additions as well. The Celtics, apart from some blips here and there, look like a strong contender to make it back but the same cannot be said about the Warriors.

Despite Stephen Curry returning from injury, the Warriors suffered a third straight defeat as they lost to a Suns team without Devin BookerChris Paul, and a host of other key players. That loss meant Golden State dropped to 20-21 and no one would have predicted that before the season. We usually see the team that was on the losing side struggle the following season but it has been the opposite this time around.
