Everything was going great for the Boston Celtics just a couple of weeks back. On the 7th of December, they had crushed the Phoenix Suns, who were sitting at the top of the Western Conference and had a league-best record of 21-5.

They had to face the Golden State Warriors next, and head coach Steve Kerr called the Celtics by far the best team in the league prior to the game. It certainly seemed to be the case at the time, but the Celtics have had a mini-collapse ever since Kerr made that remark.

They proceeded to lose to the Warriors and have now lost back-to-back games to the lowly Orlando Magic. That made it four defeats in their last five, and there seems to be a lot of frustration among their ranks at the moment. Jaylen Brown, who has had a great season, kept it real after that second loss to the Magic, but he also had some complaints about the referees.

He was called for traveling twice in the game, and for all his complaining, the fact is that he is committing the violation. Brown needs to do a better job of dribbling the basketball to make sure the referees don’t call it instead of complaining that he is being targeted. This loss also meant that the Celtics no longer have the best record in the NBA, as the Milwaukee Bucks overtook them.

The Referees Have Been Put On Blast Off Late

While the referees aren’t necessarily wrong in the case of Brown, there is no doubt that we have seen them make some terrible decisions this season. The latest came when Ja Morant was given a second technical, which led to an ejection after he was talking to a fan.

It was later revealed that Ja was complaining about the ref to the fan, which led to him getting that technical foul, but it seems excessive. It sure looks like some of these referees are making themselves the center of attention when no one wants that to be the case. We can totally understand that they have a very difficult job, but it is hard to be too sympathetic when they make decisions like this.
