As the defending NBA Champions, it was no surprise when the Golden State Warriors were picked as the favorites to win the title again this year. With mostly the same veteran core they’ve had in years past, everybody was expecting the Warriors to play their usual brand of dominant and unselfish basketball.

That has not been the case in the first quarter of this season so far. That team has instead been the Boston Celtics, who are 21-5 so far this season. While there’s still plenty of time for the Dubs to turn things around, it’s tough to look at this Boston team and say that anyone, including the Warriors, could beat them in a 7-game series right now.

In a recent segment on ‘NBA Today,’ ESPN’s Kendrick Perkins dropped his latest take on the NBA championship picture, claiming that he has more faith in the Cs to make the Finals than he does in the Warriors at this point in the season.

“The Celtics are getting to the Finals. When you talk about the most complete team in basketball, that is them and they are doing it at the highest level. They have two bonafide young superstars, they have the ultimate role players in Marcus Smart, Grant Williams, along with Malcolm Brogdon, Derrick White, and they don’t even have Robert Williams at the top. It’s no team in the league that’s going to beat them in a seven-game series, if healthy. PERIOD! They are getting back to the Finals and they are wining the championship.”

Boston Celtics Are The Overwhelming Favorites To Win The NBA Championship

The Warriors are far too talented and far too experienced to be counted out completely, but they haven’t been playing like the team we saw win the title a few months ago. And until the Warriors fix their problems on both ends of the floor, they will continue to struggle to win games.

When you compare their situation to the well-oiled Celtics machine, it’s clear who should be favored to win.

“I think Boston might win it all. I’m looking at them right now; Jayson Tatum is clearly my MVP… In the end, Devin Booker was looking spectacular, and then he goes up against Boston last night, and they get slaughtered… Jayson Tatum is averaging 30, on like 48% shooting. This brother is trying to make amends for the Finals. Right now, the Boston Celtics should be the favorites to win it all. Number one offense and they’re 12th defensively, which isn’t bad, and that’s without Robert Williams – he isn’t back yet,” Smith said.

It remains to be seen if any team can catch up to the Cs right now, but things are certainly looking good for them in this young season.

Now we will get to see how the Celtics, and their stars, respond to the pressure that comes with being the championship favorites.
