Nets superstar Kevin Durant isn’t just a casual hooper. He’s a true student of the game who loves the sport and he has made that clear over the years with his work ethic and expert understanding of the game.

So when Durant was asked to reveal his ultimate pickup game lineup, we all knew it was going to be something special.

The moment happened on Jamal Crawford’s podcast and has since gone viral online after sparking fan debate.

“MJ, Kobe, Me, Bron, Hakeem. T-Mac, KG, Steph, gotta throw AI in a pickup game. I’m gonna go with Jamal Crawford in there, man.”

The idea here is to pick players that would make the most entertaining matchups possible for the fans, and it seems KD delivered on that front. Watching those players go at it in a pickup game would be an amazing experience, no matter how they were separated.

Kevin Durant Credits NBA Legends For Giving Him Some Of His Favorite Moves

On a more serious note, though, Durant’s list proves that he isn’t just going through the motions. He loves what he does, has a passion for the game, and is a hooper at heart in the purest way.

Apparently, as he told Crawford on the pod, he even molded his own game after some of the players who came before him… like Tracy McGrady.

McGrady’s career was full of ups and downs, but when he was at his best level, he could do incredible things. Many kids around the states and the rest of the world saw him do his team in Toronto, Orlando, and Houston, including Durant, who was in awe of the shooting guard growing up.

“T-Mac stood out because I feel like we had a similar body type,” Durant told Jamal Crawford. “We had the similar move with the hesi pull-up. He started it, I felt like, and I tried to take it from him. So I tried to watch his games as much as I could and check his movements and tried to emulate everything I seen.”

Clearly, KD is someone who knows how to appreciate greatness, and he’s followed the examples set by others to help further his own career.

Regarding Durant’s imaginary pickup game, that matchup will forever remain trapped in our minds, but we can always hold out hope that the NBA adds some kind of pickup game event to All-Star weekend.
