NBA Executive On Scottie Barnes: “He Has Been The Most Impactful Rookie In The NBA From Start To Finish.”

Just 67 games into his NBA career, Raptors rookie Scottie Barnes is leaving a strong impression.

In a piece for HoopsHype, one NBA executive explained why the young stud is his pick for the Rookie of the Year.

“The Raptors as a team have been battling injuries and lineup uncertainty all year long, but Scottie Barnes has been one of the few constants for them and a major reason why they remain in the thick of the playoff race,” an NBA executive told HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto. “He’s the only rookie this season to rank in the Top 5 in every major statistical category, and he’s doing so with a combination of averages that put him among an elite class of rookies all-time, the most recent being Luka Doncic. But stats aside, if impacting team success on the court is taken into account for the Rookie of the Year award like it is MVP and All-Star honors, Barnes has been the most impactful rookie in the NBA this year from start to finish.”

Barnes, 20, was drafted 4th in the 2021 Draft, behind Cade Cunningham, Jalen Green, and Evan Mobley.

In 67 games with the Raptors this season, he’s averaging 15.3 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 3.5 assists on 48.9% shooting.

While his chances of winning Rookie of the Year remain a mystery, many in the league have already predicted big things for the Florida State prospect.

Kevin Durant on Scottie Barnes: “How old is he? 19? 20? Sheesh.”

Durant said Scottie Barnes’ IQ and enthusiasm for the game is “rare” for a rookie. Durant added Barnes is only going to get better.

After a slow start, the Raptors have looked pretty good over the past few weeks. Winnings of 8 in their last 10 games, they stand at 43-32 on the season and 6th in the East.

Barnes, who continues to show flashes of stardom, is no doubt a huge reason for their current success. He will likely be even more important for their future.
