Kendrick Perkins is a former NBA champion and eked out an extremely respectable career in the NBA. Perkins was a valuable role player on winning teams like the Boston Celtics, Oklahoma City Thunder, and more. However, Perkins wasn’t necessarily one of the key pieces on the roster, given his limited ability and inconsistency.

Perkins is known for his time with Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant’s Oklahoma City Thunder, where he was one of the bigs on the roster. Another big was Serge Ibaka, whose age was recently questioned by Perkins in a joke that many say portrays negative stereotypes of players from Africa.

While Perkins apologized, he seemed to send out a threat to Ibaka just 18 minutes later, saying he will reveal what Ibaka used to do in the OKC locker room. That is a horrible move for a former player, as locker room talk should never be public. Fans agree and have flamed Perkins and his character.

If Perkins actually starts revealing secrets about Ibaka from their time together in OKC, no player will ever respect Perkins again. Fans already treat him poorly for his takes but this will give them a genuine reason to dislike him as a person and not just for the persona he portrays when he’s on TV.

Is The Backlash Against Kendrick Perkins Justified?

Perkins is a media member and gets a lot of time to air his thoughts across channels and social media accounts. If it was just a joke, even if it was an offensive one, Perkins could have let it go with the apology. The second tweet is an unnecessary escalation and reads like a threat to many.

Until anything is actually said or done, this is just a bad Twitter interaction between former teammates. Ibaka won’t be the first former teammate to be upset with Perkins and at this rate, he might not be the last.
