The Boston Celtics know their future relies on Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. The two young stars are expected to lead this team to the promised land in the future. Still, they're not ready to compete against the Eastern Conference powerhouses yet.
In a couple of years, we could see these two going at it against the rest of the league, competing for the championship. As for now, they're focused on developing their talents and prepare for the future.
They could make a big move next year, though, trying to land one of the most exciting young players in the East. According to Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe, the C's could be getting ready to make a move for Bradley Beal next year. The Washington Wizards star is a very close friend of Jayson Tatum, which could make things easier for the Greens.
“In the case that Bradley Beal decides to stay in Washington, LaVine could be the Celtics’ No. 1 target,” Washburn said.
Moreover, Washburn says that the Celtics have set their sights on Zach LaVine, too. The Chicago Bulls guard is yet to sign a contract extension with the team, which could open the door for other franchises, including the Celtics.
“A potential Celtics free agent target could be Chicago’s Zach LaVine, who is entering the final year of his contract,” Washburn said. “He will have to prove he can lead the Bulls to the playoffs before a contract extension. LaVine changed representation recently and signed with Klutch Sports, which is usually the move for players who want to maximize their free agent potential.”
Either player would be a terrific addition to the Celtics. They know they need to add the right pieces to contend for a championship. Tatum and Brown are the cornerstones of their project, but adding more pieces can give them the edge over the rest of the East.
That's easier to say than do, but this Celtics team has a bright future ahead. If they manage to add one more star, things will get more interesting in the conference.
