As the Lakers skip further into dysfunction, Russell Westbrook’s future continues to be a topic of conversation.
Fans and analysts alike have called for L.A. to find a new home for the former MVP, and there are reports that both sides are open to moving on.
But with a stubborn mindset and flawed game, Russ isn’t exactly a highly sought-after prospect. According to FOX Sports analyst Jason McIntyre, Westbrook might not be in the league at all once his contract is over.
“Russell Westbrook ha simply not worked out in Los Angeles. I think what I feel bad about Russ about is once Russell Westbrook’s contract is over, I would venture to say I don’t know that he’s still got a spot in the NBA. This feels like the end of Allen Iverson. Allen Iverson was like a 20-point scorer, he wouldn’t go to the bench he got old and brittle. When you can’t make shots and the athletic ability starts to wain, what’s the future? What are you bringing in Westbrook for? I’m hopeful that his end of tour with the Lakers is good,” McIntyre said.

Russ has one year left on his current deal, which will dish him $47 million next season. After that, his path is unclear.
On his third team in three seasons, Westbrook hasn’t exactly made a great case for himself and we can expect teams to hesitate to take a chance on him.
At the very least, Westbrook is on his last max-level contact. If he wants to play again, he’ll have to accept an offer that’s way lower than what he’s used to.
Regardless, these are trying times for Russ and he’s got an uphill battle ahead in trying to convince the world that he’s still an elite-level player.
