Patrick Beverley went from being considered a defensive specialist to becoming somebody who gets criticized for just yelling on the court and not doing anything when guarding rivals.
The point guard made himself a known name thanks to this and now with the Los Angeles Lakers, many fans are criticizing him for making little to no impact on the game, as the Lakers have gotten some wins without necessarily relying on Bev.
Ever since Russell Westbrook said he didn’t do anything on the court, just running up and down, many fans have paid more attention to Beverley’s displays, with some really going in when criticizing the player.
Patrick Beverley Says He Belongs In The NBA
During a recent edition of his podcast, Bev fired back at those who don’t believe he belongs to the league, reminding everybody that this is a huge privilege to have, and he happens to be one of the only thousand people that made it to the association (via Basketball Network).
“I heard a stat that was crazy, and it was only 3,400 people have played in the NBA, and only 1,300 of them are alive. And that’s counting guys who only played like 1 game. There are 8 billion people on earth,” Beverley said.
During high school, Beverley wasn’t the same player he is right now. He used to go off on rivals and make them pay every night. Things changed for him after that moment, but he learned how to adapt his game to be valuable.
He had to fight hard to make it to the league after not having many opportunities to showcase his talents. Beverley never gave up and ended up getting a new chance in the NBA, and he never looked back. After playing for the Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Clippers, and Minnesota Timberwolves, he landed in Los Angeles again last summer to join forces with the Lakers.
Now, Bev is ready to help this team return to the top spots in the Western Conference, but it’ll be hard amid a tumultuous season. The Lakers are in trouble right now and they need all the help they can get. Bev has been mentioned in trade rumors recently, so we could be seeing his last games at Crypto.com Arena.
