Paul Pierce And Kevin Garnett Select Ja Morant Over Luka Doncic To Start A Franchise Right Now: “He Reminds Me Of A Cross Between Allen Iverson And Derrick Rose”

Being two of the most exciting young stars in the league, it’s not uncommon watching Luka Doncic and Ja Morant being compared. They have different styles of play, but the hype around them is high, leading fans to debate who the better player is and which one would be more impactful on a team.

Seeing how well Morant is performing right now, earning MVP buzz, while Luka has struggled to fulfill his MVP potential, fans and analysts have started to make comparisons between these two. Ja has even been compared to Giannis Antetokounmpo recently, which shows how great he is right now.

Recently, Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce touched on the current moments of both players, picking which one they’d prefer to start a franchise right now. The former Boston Celtics players agree that Luka’s skills are remarkable, but sided with Morant in the end (4:15).

“Luka got better stats, but I just love the way Ja plays, because he puts so much pressure on the defense and the speed he brings to the game, and his defensive ability. You can’t fight Luka’s skills… I gotta go with that boy in Memphis right now. Why? Because I love how much pressure he puts on defense, the athleticism, and the speed. He reminds me of a cross of Allen Iverson and Derrick Rose,” Pierce stated.

“I’ll take Ja too,” Garnett said. “No knock on Luka, because you can’t teach 6’5″, 6’6″… If I gotta pick one, Ja’s stock is up, and the way he’s playing with his team…”

Ja is having a terrific moment right now, leading the Grizzlies to the 3rd seed in the West, only trailing the Golden State Warriors and Phoenix Suns. They already showed what they’re capable of last season when they eliminated the Dubs on the way to the postseason.

Now Morant is trying to raise the bar and do even better with his squad. So far he’s done a terrific job, while other figures like Desmond Bane, Jaren Jackson Jr. and Steven Adams have helped him. The future looks bright for the Grizzlies, and Ja is already showing he’s ready to do great things.
