Philander Rodman, the dad of NBA Hall of Famer Dennis Rodman, has passed away at the age of 79 in the Philippines. Philander died in Angeles City, Pampanga on Tuesday, July 14. The passing was announced by his granddaughter, Jasmine Rodman, via Facebook.
The family of Philander tried to reach Dennis to ask for help with the hospital fees. They also created a GoFundMe to receive any donation people want to make.
His relationship with Dennis wasn't the closest one of all, but there was no hate between them. Back in, 2012 during an NBA legends’ exhibition game at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Dennis talked about his father, who was in attendance and hoping for a reconciliation.
“I haven’t seen my father in 42 years. In 42 years, right? But he’s still my dad. But he’s right here. Right there,” said the five-time NBA champion.
One year before that, Dennis delivered a strong speech during his Hall of Fame induction, claiming he "did not have a father."
One would imagine Philander left this world in peace with his son and himself. Throughout his life, he reportedly had 29 children through 16 women.
