Chet Holmgren was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, selected by the Oklahoma City Thunder. He is generally regarded as a prospect that is highly skilled at shot creation and perimeter shooting while also possessing a lengthy frame. There is no doubt that many people expect him to be a superstar-caliber player at some point in the future.

Recently, it was revealed that Chet Holmgren would miss the entirety of the 2022-23 season with a Lisfranc foot injury. There’s no doubt that this is an unfortunate occurrence.

Oklahoma City Thunder GM has recently backed Chet Holmgren, basically suggesting that he’d still pick Chet Holmgren, even if that means the team has to wait a year to get him.

GM Sam Presti on Chet Holmgren:

"If you asked me before the lottery… you could pick between one or you could pick eight, or, the other option is you could have Chet Holmgren, but you have to wait a year to get him — I would not let you finish the sentence."

“If you asked me before the lottery… you could pick between one or you could pick eight, or, the other option is you could have Chet Holmgren, but you have to wait a year to get him — I would not let you finish the sentence.”

“…this is Chet’s first experience in Oklahoma City. And I would just tell our fans, let him know that you care. Let him know that you have his back, because this is the type of guy that’s going to have your back, and he’s going to have your back for a long time.”

“Something positive will come from this as long as we take it in and understand that. We have to have humility and we have to have gratitude as we deal with the setback.”

It is good to see that Chet Holmgren has the team’s full support as he deals with the adversity that comes from this injury. Missing an entire year is brutal for any player, and hopefully, we see Chet Holmgren come back stronger than ever.

We will see how well the Oklahoma City Thunder end up doing next year. They will likely be a lottery team again, but perhaps we will see the squad surprise us and finish higher than expected.
