Shannon Sharpe recently criticized Jeanie Buss’ decision of asking Phil Jackson for advice regarding the Los Angeles Lakers. The Purple and Gold have had a terrible 2021/22 NBA season, struggling to get things going in the Western Conference, even after adding Russell Westbrook to the roster.
Things haven’t gone in the team’s favor and everybody is trying to find a solution to this issue. Team owner Jeanie Buss has looked for alternatives outside the team and she reportedly linked up with former head coach Phil Jackson. The legendary coach could be a good option for her, but not everybody believes Buss made the right decision.
FS1’s Shannon Sharpe belongs to that group, as he doesn’t consider that Jackson’s resume as an executive is good enough to have a voice on the 2021/22 Los Angeles Lakers. In a recent edition of “Skip and Shannon: Undisputed,” the former NFL player discredited Phil’s contribution to his former team.
“What advice would I take from Phil Jackson? He built no roster in Chicago or in LA. He had his chance in NY and bulldozed it. As good of a coach he was, he’s just as bad at building a team.”

Truth be told, Jackson was an incredible coach, but when it was time to assemble a championship team, he failed at it. His stint with the New York Knicks didn’t go as expected, which is why so many people doubt he can bring something valuable to the Lakers right now. Sharpe just said what many people are thinking, but that doesn’t mean Jeanie will change her mind about asking Jackson for his advice.
The 17-time NBA champions are in a big predicament right now, and there’s no clear answer for their struggles. Some believe that moving Russell Westbrook was the best option for them, but the front office decided to keep Brodie on board. They have to make an improvement with their current roster, but that’s highly unlikely to happen.
