The Golden State Warriors are the most successful NBA franchise of the last decade. The team has won 4 championships and has been to the NBA Finals two more times. Built around a great core of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green, the team has dominated the NBA in many ways.

One of the architects behind their success is the President of Basketball Operations and General Manager, Bob Myers. Myers has been instrumental in keeping huge stars with the Dubs while also finding great deals for elite role players that have been so important for the team. But as Adrian Wojnarowski recently reported, Myers is in the last months of his contract without a new deal.

“Golden State Warriors president of basketball operations Bob Myers — architect of four NBA championships in the past eight years — is entering into the final months of his contract and remains without a new deal, sources told ESPN.

“Golden State ownership and Myers — a two-time NBA Executive of the Year — have had conversations on a new contract, but those talks appear to be on hiatus, sources said.”

And there have been further reports on this front, with an article from The Athletic explaining what the issue between Myers and the Warriors has been.

“For all the nuance that surrounds the situation, this much is clear: team and league sources, who like all of the sources in this story were granted anonymity so they could speak freely, say Myers believes he should be among the highest-paid front office executives in the league, if not the highest.

“He’s been the architect of four NBA title teams, was the lead recruiter in the Durant free agency signing, and has been the trusted conduit between players, coaches and ownership.”

Nothing is surprising about the fact that Myers wants to get paid, what he’s done for the Warriors is as good, if not better than most GMs in the history of the NBA have managed. But if it does so happen that Myers decides to leave, 4 teams have been named as suitors.

Phoenix Suns, New York Knicks, And Los Angeles Clippers Named Among Franchises Interested In Bob Myers

Finding superstars and elite players is difficult in the NBA, but finding an amazing executive might be even more difficult. Bob Myers will be a coveted asset if he is to walk, and The Athletic named a few teams that could go for him.

“According to sources close to the situation, Washington, Phoenix, and New York are all worth monitoring as possibilities. Meanwhile, the recent focus in front office circles, where Myers’ situation has become a hot topic, is on the Clippers.”

Watching how this unfolds will be interesting, to say the least. The Golden State Warriors shouldn’t play it too close, losing Myers would be quite a big loss for the franchise. He will want to be paid like the top executive he is, though, and that means his future will be up in the air.
