The Memphis Grizzlies are in a rough stretch of form right now. They have gone 1-7 in their most recent stretch of 8 games and are barely holding onto their position as the second seed in the West. Their most recent loss came tonight against the Cleveland Cavaliers in a game that got quite chippy.
All-Star starter Donovan Mitchell and the always-controversial Dillon Brooks got into a spat after a foul from Brooks on Mitchell. Brooks allegedly took a swipe at Mitchell’s groin after fouling him, which prompted Spida to throw the basketball at Brooks and then squared up with him after the foul.

A fan shared an angle that showed Brooks’ trying to swipe at Donovan’s groin, justifying the reaction from Mitchell.

Mitchell was having a tough game when this happened, and both players were ejected as a result. He shot 2-11 from the field and was actually outscored by Brooks in the minutes both players played.
Donovan Mitchell Airs His Frustrations Against Dillon Brooks
Mitchell spoke about the altercation between the two after the game, saying that the NBA needs to do something about actions like these.
"Him and I have had our personal battles for years. Quite frankly, I've been busting his ass for years."

“We’ve seen it a bunch with him. Him and I have had our personal battles for years and quite frankly, I’ve been busting his ass for years. Playoffs or regular season, the one game he does an a’ight job on me like tonight, he decides to do something like that. There’s no place for that in the game. You gotta protect yourself at the end of the game and this has been known for years. With me and other guys in the league, you all see it, this is not something that’s new. Tonight was just the end of it and it’s tough when you can’t guard someone and you gotta resort to that. That’s what he’s done to so many players, off the top of my head, Dame and Steph. This is one of the things he resorts to.”
Mitchell’s frustrations with Brooks are not the first time a player has openly criticized the Grizzlies’ forward like that. The Warriors were upset with unsportsmanlike fouls on their players in the playoffs from Brooks as well. While he serves his purpose as the gritty defender for Memphis, he is making many enemies while doing so.
