Despite having his legal case dropped by law enforcement earlier this week, the NBA is set to continue its own investigation into OKC Thunder guard Josh Giddey over allegations of sexual misconduct. Giddey, who was caught in a social media scandal earlier this season, could face some hefty consequences if found guilty of inappropriate action but no definitive proof has been produced of his wrongdoing.

“The NBA’s review into claims he had an improper relationship with a minor remains ongoing,” reported TMZ Sports. “Sources tell us nothing has changed as far as the Association is concerned … despite Newport Beach PD recently closing its investigation without the 21-year-old Oklahoma City Thunder guard being charged.”

The NBA has no tolerance for this type of behavior and we saw in the case of Miles Bridges and Kevin Porter Jr. just how unforgiving the league can be for guys who cross the line. In the case of Giddey, however, the story is still unclear on what exactly happened and the extent of his innocence is still somewhat unknown but the NBA will likely not rest until they get the full story.

What Happened On November 23rd?

The situation with Giddey began in late November, on the eve of Thanksgiving. In a shocking post that came out of nowhere, an anonymous X user claimed that Giddey was dating and had relations with an underage girl. When social media started buzzing with reactions, Giddey and his camp fell silent as they allowed the police and the NBA to carry out their investigations. As Giddey was getting bullied and slandered online, the case took a completely different direction when it was revealed that the accuser and the family involved were not cooperating with authorities.

Eventually, with no new leads, the police shut down the case and Giddey can rest easy knowing that the cops are no longer on his tail. Regarding the NBA, however, he’s not so lucky. Adam Silver and the NBA office will no doubt go to great lengths to corroborate Giddey’s side of the story and if something doesn’t add up, it could jeopardize his position in the league. Of course, the fans have not forgotten the situation and many still see him as a guilty party. So far, however, Giddy has managed to avoid serious trouble even though his reputation will never fully recover.

OKC Thunder On The Rise

No matter your feelings on Josh Giddey, his part in the Thunder’s grand plan cannot be denied. As a quality two-way player who fills his role to perfection, Giddey’s presence is huge for Oklahoma City and it’s good for them that he has avoided any fallout from the scandal. This season, at 27-13, the Thunder are poised to make a long playoff run and this could be the start of a brand new dynasty in the Western Conference.

With Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Chet Holmgren leading the way, OKC is in good hands for the future and they have a chance to do something special with this group. For their sake, the Thunder better hope that Josh Giddey is innocent of all the accusations, or the good vibes could turn ugly very quickly.
