Marcus Smart has been one of the most important players on the Boston Celtics for the last couple of years. The defensive specialist has shown his value in the league, giving it all for the C’s, who are yet to make the NBA Finals for the first time since 2010. This upcoming NBA season might be the one for Boston, but Smart couldn’t be part of that team anymore.

According to David Aldridge of The Athletic, the Celtics’ future belongs to Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, which would prompt the team to part ways with Smart. He’s been great for the team, but Aldridge says he’s not ‘ungettable’ and another franchise could land him as long as they make the right offer to Boston.

“But the Celtics are still centered by Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, now both signed to long-term extensions, with Marcus Smart (who’s not ungettable, per league sources) and Kemba Walker back in strong support roles.”

Even though Tatum and Brown are the biggest stars of the team, Smart has been the soul of the Celtics since he made it to the team in 2014. Things have changed, a lot of players have come and gone but he’s remained there, always giving the best for his team. It’s not like they’re actively looking for trade partners to deal Smart, but the Lakers aren’t obsessed with keeping the player on the roster.

The Celtics have been criticized for the way they do business, shipping their figures to other teams without showing loyalty to them and Smart could be another name on that list. But, that’s how things work in Boston.
