When Gordon Hayward signed with the Celtics in 017, there was optimism from both sides that they could make a bit of history together. But, three injury-plagued seasons later, it seems Hayward’s long-term future with the franchise is under major doubt.

Hayward came to Boston the season after his first (and only) All-Star appearance — when he averaged 21.9 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 3.5 assists on 47% shooting as one of the NBA’s best defenders.
In three seasons with the Celtics, he only played over 70 games once, which was the 2018-19 season when he averaged just 11 points per game.
The 30-year-old swingman had a bounce-back year in his most recent campaign, but many think the rise of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown have overshadowed his role with the team.
As for the Celtics, they are looking for any avenue they can to improve their roster and make a run for the 2021 title. Trading Hayward, along with another piece of their stockpile of assets, could net them someone big on the trade market.
Needless to say, it’s an ongoing situation that could go either way. Neither Biden nor the Celtics have indicated any sort of split — but with the way 2020 is going, there’s really no way of knowing for sure.
