The WNBA’s Atlanta Dream is owned by Mary Brock and U.S. Senator Kelly Loeffler, the latter of which might be the most hated owner in the league. As a hard-nosed Republican and staunch supporter of President Trump, her own team has turned against her, actively campaigning for her rival, Rafael Warnock in the 2021 Georgia runoffs.
With Loeffler’s defeat in the polls, she is set to lose her senate seat. And now, she may be losing her stake in the Atlanta Dream as well.
According to Tweets by LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony, the pair could be planning to make a run at buying up ownership of the club sometime in the near future…

Much of the disconnect between Loeffler and her players stems from the BLM protests that took place last season. After WNBA players took a public stand against police brutality, Loeffler criticized them, saying “I don’t think they have a place in sports. Sports need to be about unity and bringing us together.”
Of course, if Melo and James (lifelong friends) unite to buy enough of the team, they could become the new owners, which would obviously be a godsend for the players and many of the fans.
But it remains to be seen if they can, or will, get it done any time soon.
