The Boston Celtics have been front and center in the James Harden sweepstakes since news of his trade request went public in the offseason.
And while Harden has been on an amazing tear to start the season, not everyone is sold that the Celtics should trade for him. On his podcast, Bill Simmons of “The Ringer” explained why:
“I just want to root for Tatum and Brown for the next 10 years, stop sending me Harden’s trade rumors I don’t want to hear it.”
This season, Jaylen and Tatum have emerged as major stars in the East, averaging a combined 52.5 points per game. With a two-sided game and obvious chemistry, it’s understandable that the Celtics and their fans would want to keep them together.
The Celtics, meanwhile, have been among the top teams in the East. This season, they currently hold a 6-3 record, with a 4th place standing.
Still, many questions remain about how far that duo can get them and if they are worth missing out on a player like James Harden, who is an 8x All-Star, 3x Scoring Champ, and 7x All-NBA player.
No doubt, the Celtics have a lot to think about in the weeks and months to come. The hope is that, no matter what decision they come to in regards to their roster, the franchise can find the success that has followed them for decades now.
