In New York City, the Knicks have yet to make any serious moves regarding the makeup of the roster. But after finishing 11th in the East this past season, there is a sense that team President Leon Rose is going to consider all of his options as training camp approaches.

In fact, some already consider it an inevitability that the Knicks will land young star Donovan Mitchell within the next few weeks.

(via Brian Windhorst):

“Knicks have eight tradable first round picks and a need and a desire for a star player like Donovan Mitchell. Some people believe this is an inevitability…I think we’re going to hear a lot about Mitchell and the New York Knicks in the coming days.”

Mitchell, 25, is at a major crossroads in his career. After five mostly unsuccessful seasons in Utah, he has become a regular inclusion in trade talks as the Jazz head towards a complete rebuild.

While the Knicks are not guaranteed to land Mitchell, the package they can offer outweighs most others, and they are considered the favorites at this point in the offseason.

After previously shutting down inquiries on moving All-Star guard Donovan Mitchell, rival teams say the Utah Jazz are showing a willingness to listen to possible trade scenarios, sources tell ESPN (via Adrian Wojnarowski).

The asking price appears to be steep, but in the wake of Utah’s recent Rudy Gobert blockbuster deal to Minnesota, the Jazz are no longer simply dismissing calls on Mitchell, sources said.

The Knicks haven’t had a star of Mitchell’s caliber since Carmelo Anthony, who left the team back in 2017. With Mitch at the helm, New York can build a proper team around him and finally take a step up in the Eastern Conference.

Either way, the Knicks are in a strong position to win the Mitchell sweepstakes, and it could change the trajectory of their future.
