The Minnesota Timberwolves made a bold move a couple of days ago by trading away Jeff Teague and Treveon Graham to the Atlanta Hawks, creating some flexibility by clearing a roster space.

It’s been public knowledge that the team is looking to improve the point guard position as they look to make Karl-Anthony Towns happy while also trying to make the playoffs.

Luckily for them, they have plenty of players the could look to trade for ,and they have Robert Covington, Jarrett Culver, Allen Crabbe, and a handful of picks that they could use on any trade, but which one would be their best choice? Let’s break it down:

Dennis Smith Jr

Dennis Smith Jr isn’t having a good time in New York. The Knicks are stacked at the point guard position and are in no position to compete. He’s been rumored to be interested in getting out of there and start fresh somewhere else.

The Timberwolves have reportedly been intrigued with Smith since Draft night and his talent and upside make him a low-risk / high reward kind of pickup.

He’ not doing very well right now with averages of 5.2 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game, but he’s still young and may just need a change of environment.

Jrue Holiday

The New Orleans Pelicans are reportedly quite sold on Lonzo Ball as their point guard going forward and Jrue Holiday has never been as high as it is right now. He’s one of the best two-way players in the game.

Holiday would be intrigued by the possibility of playing for a team trying to make the playoffs, and the Timberwolves would finally have another scorer and a guy that could also anchor their backcourt defense.

Thus far, Holiday is having a great season even despite his team’s struggles, posting averages of 19.6 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 6.5 assists per game.

Mike Conley

Mike Conley

Mike Conley has had a rough start of his career in Utah, as he’s struggled with poor shooting, lack of efficiency and even subpar defense. However, we know he’s just too good for this to continue for a long time.

Conley is a savvy veteran that knows how to play great defense and is a huge threat in the pick-and-roll. He did wonders next to Marc Gasol, so it would be a treat to see him with Towns. Also, it feels like the Jazz don’t need him.

Even though he entered the season with high hopes and expectations, Conley’s averages of 13.6 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 4.6 assists per game have been somewhat underwhelming.

D’Angelo Russell

D’Angelo Russell is one of Karl-Anthony Towns’ closest friends, so if they want to make him happy and keep him aboard, trading for him is a must. Also, they’ve been trying to lure him since the summer.

However, trading for Russell would most likely mean they need to part ways with Andrew Wiggins and several future picks, but it would be worthy as they’d get to have one of the most promising duos in the world for years to come.

So far, Russell hasn’t played up to his potential as we saw in Brooklyn, but he’s still averaging 23.1 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 6.2 assists per game.

Chris Paul

(via Bleacher Report)

The Oklahoma City Thunder are defying the odds and pushing for a spot in the playoffs, and Chris Paul deserves a lot of credit for that given the way he’s been playing since the start of the season.

Paul has been clutch, played lockdown defense, and shown his top-tier playmaking abilities all year long. However, he wouldn’t come easy, as the Timberwolves would need to send Jarrett Culver as well on any trade package for him.

Chris Paul has really turned back the clock this year and has been a true leader as well. So far, he’s posting averages of 16.4 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 6.5 assists per game.
