The Atlanta Hawks are an exciting team in the Eastern Conference, and Trae Young has led them to the 5th seed in the Eastern Conference. Despite their good position, it seems as though pairing Trae Young with another All-Star caliber player during the offseason could greatly benefit them going forward, as Trae Young is clearly a player who can be the best player on a playoff team.

Kristaps Porzingis is a player that could be an appealing target for the Hawks, and they could potentially acquire him via trade this offseason. Here is a potential trade package that could send Kristaps Porzingis to the Atlanta Hawks.

Atlanta Hawks Receive: Kristaps Porzingis

Dallas Mavericks Receive: John Collins (sign and trade), Cam Reddish

The Dallas Mavericks Shake Up Their Roster

It has been rumored that the Dallas Mavericks have been looking for a secondary ballhandler next to Luka Doncic. This potential trade with the Atlanta Hawks could give them that, as well as a promising young big man to replace Porzingis. John Collins notably turned down a $90 million extension from the Atlanta Hawks prior to the start of the season, which means that the Hawks could try to pursue a sign and trade during this offseason. This trade would only happen in the scenario where the Hawks and Collins don’t come to an agreement on a new contract this offseason.

Cameron Reddish could be a secondary ballhandler next to Doncic that fits the overall development timeline of the roster. Reddish hasn’t lit the world on fire on the Atlanta Hawks, but he has shown flashes of his talent and could improve on a different organization with more freedom. The key here though would also be acquiring John Collins via sign-and-trade.

Of course, John Collins would have to agree to a sign and trade to the Dallas Mavericks, but that would be one of the better destinations for him. He would be an amazing complementary player for Luka Doncic, as he can space the floor well as well as providing an elite lob threat. For John Collins, this would be an opportunity to team up with another elite playmaker who can help him play his game and set him up for easy opportunities.

With this trade, the Dallas Mavericks would give away an established star in order to get two solid pieces that could develop alongside Doncic and make the team better in the future.

The Atlanta Hawks Take A Risk On A Talented Big Man

Kristaps Porzingis has missed a lot of games due to injury, but when healthy, he is still one of the most talented big men in the game. Kristaps Porzingis is 7′ 3″, and he can shoot lights out from beyond the arc. If he were traded to the Atlanta Hawks, then he could be a viable second option next to Trae Young. Porzingis is currently averaging 20.2 PPG and 9.1 RPG while shooting 36.2% from beyond the arc on 6.1 attempts a game.

While it would hurt for the Hawks to lose John Collins, Kristaps Porzingis would be a solid addition to the roster, and one that could be slightly more dynamic on the offensive end. Losing Cameron Reddish would be less painful, as the Hawks already have wing players like De’Andre Hunter who play solid on the offensive end. Overall, this would be a win-now move for the Hawks in case they can’t come to an agreement with Collins. Kristaps Porzingis is undeniably talented, and he could take the Hawks’ offense to new heights next to Trae Young.
