Damian Lillard has been a constant name in most trade rumors ahead of the offseason. Dame could reportedly be on his way out of the Portland Trail Blazers if the organization fails to build a winning team around him.

The Brooklyn Nets have emerged as a potential trade suitor for the 32-year-old in the Eastern Conference. According to Zach Harper and Shams Charania of ‘The Athletic,’ the Nets want to build a trade package around veterans to bring Lillard to Brooklyn.

“A Brooklyn deal probably centers around the expiring deals of Spencer Dinwiddie and Joe Harris,” Harper and Charania wrote. “That’s before hoping to pry as many of those future first-round picks Brooklyn has from Philadelphia, Phoenix, and Dallas. Either way, such offers might not inspire a promising rebuild for Blazers fans.

Spencer Dinwiddie averaged 17.3 PPG, 3.4 RPG, 6.5 APG during the 2023 regular season. On the other hand, Joe Harris averaged 7.6 PPG, 2.2 RPG, and 1.4 APG.

The two Nets veterans are solid players, but could they shine at a time that may enter a rebuilding phase? No. Dinwiddie and Harris are 30 and 31 years old, respectively. They can be valuable pieces for a championship contending team.

Will Damian Lillard Demand A Trade This Summer?

Damian Lillard is coming off a season where he averaged 32.2 PPG, 4.8 RPG, and 7.3 APG. So, there’s no doubt that Dame is still one of the top players in the NBA.

Despite many rumors about the uncertainty over his future with the Trail Blazers, Dame is reportedly still recruiting free agents ahead of the offseason. The 32-year-old has played 11 seasons for the franchise and it could be hard for him to leave the team so easily.

Keeping that in mind, the Trail Blazers are expected to shop for a trade for Anfernee Simons and the third overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft. It’s an effort from the organization to provide surety to Lillard that they are trying their best to build a competent roster around him.

If all goes well, there’s no reason for Lillard to leave the franchise that drafted him in the 2012 NBA Draft.
