  • Giannis Antetokounmpo’s future with the Milwaukee Bucks gets another twist
  • The Chicago Bulls are apparently interested in signing Antetokounmpo when his current contract expires
  • Giannis is not keen on signing a contract extension with the Bucks if everyone’s not on the same page

Giannis Antetokounmpo remains one of the best players in the NBA heading into the 2023-24 season. But since leading the Milwaukee Bucks to the 2021 NBA Championship, the Greek Freak hasn’t had much success in the postseason.

Despite finishing as the first seed in the Eastern Conference in the 2023-24 season, the Bucks were eliminated in five games by the Miami Heat in the First Round of the playoffs. Since then, the future of Antetokounmpo with the Bucks has constantly been in discussion. The Chicago Bulls apparently have eyes on signing him in a couple of years.

“I believe that’s exactly what the Bulls are positioning themselves to do, with all eyes on Giannis Antetokounmpo in the summer of 2025,” Darnell Mayberry of The Athletic wrote. “Landing a big fish in that fashion immediately would put the Bulls back in championship contention, fueled by the league’s best and most dominant player.”

He added: “By keeping their failed core together and trumpeting continuity, the Bulls aren’t just remaining competitive in the short term. They’ve also maintained salaries large enough and players talented enough to warrant a seat at the table if the day comes that Antetokounmpo is ready to branch out from Milwaukee.”

Giannis Antetokounmpo could opt out of the final year of his five-year, $228 million supermax contract extension. A team like the Bulls would have a perfect chance to convince him.

As of now, the Bulls have all but a top-10 protected pick included in the DeMar DeRozan trade.

In the summer of 2025, the Bulls will have Zach LaVine entering the second-last year of his five-year, $215 million deal, Nikola Vucevic in the final year of his three-year, $60 million deal, and Coby White on the second-last year of his three-year, $36 million deal.

If Giannis opts out of his player option, the Bulls will have a great roster around him. But as of now, there’s no confirmation of the organization going after the Greek Freak.

Giannis Antetokounmpo Hinted At Playing For The Chicago Bulls In The Future

Giannis Antetokounmpo will be 30 years in the summer of 2025. He will still be in the prime of his career and more than capable of leading a team to an NBA Championship.

But if he decides to leave the Bucks, which team will he join? Well, last year, Giannis himself revealed he can’t rule out playing for the Bulls in the future.

“I think anybody who is asked that question and would say no, he’s a liar. It’s a team that won multiple championships, it’s the team with one of the greatest, if not the greatest players to ever play this game played for.

“It’s a no-brainer, everybody would love to play for Chicago. Down the line, you never know. Maybe I play for Chicago, but right now I am committed to Milwaukee.”

It would be a dream come true for the Bulls fanbase to see Antetokounmpo join the organization. After all, he is a 1x NBA Champion, 1x NBA Finals MVP, 2x NBA MVP, and a 1x NBA Defensive Player of the Year.

Giannis Antetokounmpo Will Only Re-Sign With The Milwaukee Bucks If Everyone’s On The Same Page

Giannis Antetokounmpo has been loyal to the Milwaukee Bucks throughout his NBA career. He has been a member of the organization for 10 years and even delivered a title to them.

But at the end of the day, winning is the most important thing for most players. Keeping that in mind, Antetokounmpo revealed if he and the Bucks organization aren’t on the same page, he may not re-sign with the team.

The statement shocked many, but according to Gilbert Arenas, Giannis Antetokounmpo is doing what Kobe Bryant did in 2007. Bryant demanded a trade from the Los Angeles Lakers to improve the roster and it ultimately paid off.

It is possible that Giannis could be trying to force the Bucks to improve the roster by threatening not to re-sign with the team. Only time will tell whether Antetokounmpo gets his request or not.
