NBA Rumors: Executives Believe Cavs Will Trade Andre Drummond Before Start Of Season

2 Min Read

It has been a quiet summer for Cleveland but, facing another season in the Eastern Conference bunker, the Cavs may be considering moving on from their star center, Andre Drummond.

According to OutKick, several executives expect the Cavs to trade the 27-year-old big man before the start of the season.

“Several opposing executives contacted by OutKick over the past several days said they believe the Cleveland Cavaliers will trade center Andre Drummond, perhaps before the start of the season,” wrote Sam Amico.

The Cavs acquired Drummond back in February for Brandon Knight, John Henson, and a 2023 second-round pick. He only played in eight games before the NBA hiatus began and ended Cleveland’s season.

Now in the final year of his contract, Drummond and the Cavaliers were supposed to reach an agreement on an extension this offseason, but both sides have failed to come to terms, leading many to believe he could be headed elsewhere in an attempt by the team to not lose him for nothing. Potential trade partners could include the Celtics, Knicks, and Warriors.

The 27-year-old is a traditional, rim-running center, but has remained effective even in today’s NBA. Last season, he averaged 17.7 points, 15.2 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks per game on 53.3% shooting.
