NBA Rumors: Dallas Mavericks Could Target John Collins Or Myles Turner

The Dallas Mavericks have been a solid team this year, and they are 5th in the Western Conference after beating the Memphis Grizzlies. Despite their position as a playoff team, most don’t consider them legitimate contenders for the title, as they do not have the same level of talent as teams such as the Phoenix Suns and the Brooklyn Nets.

It seems as though the Dallas Mavericks are trying to add talent to the roster to help Luka Doncic. NBA insider Marc Stein has recently reported that the Mavericks could target Myles Turner or John Collins. Stein’s words were relayed by Grant Afseth of Fan Nation.

Dallas has been trying to get into the trade mix for Turner or Collins. Jalen Brunson and Dorian Finney-Smith, two low-salaried but highly rated Mavericks headed for unrestricted free agency this summer barring contract extensions by June 30, have no shortage of suitors.

But Dallas’ ability to swing a significant trade could hinge on its ability to find a trade partner for Tim Hardaway Jr., who is averaging just 14.5 points (his lowest mark in five seasons) and shooting a mere 39.2% from the field and 32.8% from 3-point range after signing a four-year, $75 million contract in August.

We will see if the Dallas Mavericks do in fact acquire either of the two big men. Myles Turner would definitely help them on the defensive end as a top-tier rim protector, while John Collins would work well offensively off of Luka Doncic’s playmaking just as he has done with Trae Young on the Atlanta Hawks.

There are definitely some other options for the Dallas Mavericks on the trade market. The Mavericks have been linked with point guard Dennis Schroder previously, and he’d be a solid scorer that could help them offensively. The trade deadline will be coming soon, and we’ll see what the Mavericks decide to do.
