Fred VanVleet has been having an absolutely fantastic season for the Toronto Raptors thus far, playing like an All-Star caliber point guard. Currently, Fred VanVleet is averaging 22.0 PPG, 4.9 RPG, and 6.6 APG, while shooting 40.9% from beyond the arc.

Detroit Pistons coach Dwane Casey has recently compared Fred VanVleet to a Toronto Raptors legend in Kyle Lowry, and added that VanVleet should “absolutely” be an All-Star selection this year.

“He’s Kyle Lowry. He’s a clone of Kyle … he should be an all-star, absolutely,” Dwane Casey on Fred VanVleet.

Kyle Lowry was a 6-time All-Star who was well-known for being a good all-around offensive player, combining scoring with playmaking a tough defense. Fred VanVleet is definitely on a similar path, and it’s easy to see why Dwane Casey chose to make that comparison.

We will see if Fred VanVleet will end up being an All-Star. There are definitely a lot of deserving guards in the Eastern Conference, such as Darius Garland of the Cleveland Cavaliers, Jrue Holiday of the Milwaukee Bucks, and LaMelo Ball of the Charlotte Hornets. There’s no question that Fred VanVleet is playing at a high level though, and he’s clearly one of the best guards in the league.

Ever since Fred VanVleet agreed to a 4-year $85 million deal with the Toronto Raptors, he has become one of the leaders in the franchise. There’s no question that his play has been steadfast, and even with all the uncertainty surrounding the direction fo the franchise he has been spectacular. The Toronto Raptors are currently 9th in the Eastern Conference in a play-in spot, and there’s no question that they have a solid chance of making the playoffs through that avenue. Fred VanVleet continuing his play will be crucial to that happening, and hopefully, he is able to guide them to the postseason.
