NBA Rumors: Mavericks Could Trade For Victor Oladipo And Myles Turner

If one thing has become clear for the Dallas Mavericks, it’s that they will only go as far as Luka Doncic takes them. Fortunately, that reality has been a good thing for the franchise, as Doncic seems poised for another MVP-caliber season.

But if they want to really maximize their chances to win this season, and get the most out of Luka’s talent, they might want to consider making a major move.

Among a sea of possibilities, SI’s Mavs Step Back Podcast pointed out one scenario that could land Dallas two border0line All-Stars to their already talented roster: Victor Oladipo and Myles Turned from the Indiana Pacers.

The idea of adding both Oladipo and Turner would accomplish a handful of things for the Mavs, including:

Dallas could potentially land that “third star” in Oladipo, should he be able to stay healthy.

The Mavs would continue to improve their roster defensively, while also retaining offensive flexibility. At this point in his career, Turner has become an underrated stretch-big, and he would fit nicely at power forward with Kristaps Porzingis at center. (It so happens that Dallas coach Rick Carlisle is a Turner fan.)

Dallas could make the ‘big splash’ well in advance of free agency, something most Mavs fans would love to see, given how free agency has gone for them historically.

With Luka, the Mavs have that transcendent player seemingly every title-winning team needs. Now, their focus should be on building depth and surrounding Doncic with players that complement his game.

In Oladipo, they get a solid two-way guard who could fit into any system. Last season, the 28-year-old averaged 17.3 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game on 44.1% shooting. Turner, meanwhile, gives them much-needed help in the frontcourt. Despite questions about his work ethic, his size and scoring ability could be a real treat for the Mavs.

Obviously, it remains to be seen what kind of assets Dallas would be willing to give up, but if it means adding two talented and versatile players, you can expect them to at least give it some serious consideration.
