NBA Rumors: Top 5 Best Destinations For Montrezl Harrell

It took him some time but finally, Montrezl Harrell is getting the praise and recognition he deserves for his contributions on both ends of the floor. That’s why he’s expected to demand a lot of money next summer when he hits free agency.

  • 4. New York Knicks
  • 3. Phoenix Suns
  • 2. Minnesota Timberwolves
  • 1. Charlotte Hornets

Harrell is currently averaging 18.6 points, 7.1 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 1.1 blocks per game on 58% from the floor and 27.8 minutes a night. He’s clearly earned a big buck but the Clippers aren’t likely to be able to offer him nowhere near what he wants.

So, with that in mind, Harrell is likely going to draw plenty of attention in the open market, especially from teams trying to develop a winning culture that wants to add some grit and hustle to their roster. Today, we’re going to talk about the top 5 best destinations for him:

5. Los Angeles Clippers

Montrezl Harrell could still take a pay cut and stay with the Clippers. They have a Championship-caliber team and breaking up that core may not be Doc Rivers’ intention. They could also move some players to try and create more cap space for him.

Harrell could also decide to pursue a Championship with the Clippers but that’ll depend on how they fare in the Orlando bubble. If not, he’s going to try and cash in on the most lucrative deal he can get his hands on, regardless of if he can contend or not.

4. New York Knicks

The New York Knicks are about to hire Tom Thibodeau as their head coach. That means he’s going to be in the market for some hustlers, guys that want to put their body on the line on the defensive end of the floor and both sides of the glass.

The Knicks already have a bit of a logjam at the power forward spot with Julius Randle, Bobby Portis, and Thibb’s favorite hustler: Taj Gibson. Even so, they could trade one or two of them to make room for Harrell and you know they love to overpay player, so there’s also that.

3. Phoenix Suns

The Phoenix Suns must do everything in their power to try and keep Devin Booker happy. That means they must spend big bucks this summer to try and surround him with a better supporting cast and adding Harrell would be a step in the right direction.

Harrell could slight into their starting lineup next to Deandre Ayton and help him hide some of his defensive flaws. They’d have a strong, physical frontcourt and enough size to make some noise in the Western Conference. Their defense would significantly improve.

2. Minnesota Timberwolves

Let’s be honest for a second. The Minnesota Timberwolves need toughness. They’re craving a guy that can take them over the hump, look their young players to the eyes and let them have it after a loss. They need Harrell’s grit, grind, and hustle.

Harrell could also be a lot of help next to Karl-Anthony Towns, who’s clearly not a good defender at all. The Timberwolves need some heart on their team to go back to the playoffs, and you know Harrell won’t tolerate a lack of effort.

1. Charlotte Hornets

Well, the Charlotte Hornets have a history of overpaying players, and even though Harrell is great and all, he’s likely to be overpaid in his next contract. Also, he claims to be like Dennis Rodman and you know how much Michael Jordan loves that kind of player.

The Charlotte Hornets aren’t likely to be contending any time soon but adding Harrell to their core of Devonte’ Graham, Miles Bridges, and Terry Rozier may even take them to the playoffs. They’d only need a couple of role players.
