The Los Angeles Lakers are still far from perfect, but they have somewhat saved themselves after a 2-10 start to the regular season. Over the past few weeks, the Lakers have played in great form and added several wins to their season tally.
One of the biggest reasons behind the sudden turnaround for the Lakers this season was Russell Westbrook finally embracing a bench role. Prior to becoming the leader of the second unit for the Los Angeles Lakers, there were genuine concerns about Brodie’s career being finished. Thankfully, he fought off those claims and prolonged his career in the NBA.
He has remained a key player for the Lakers throughout the season so far but is still not looked at as a great suitor alongside LeBron James.
Russell Westbrook Is Safe From Trade Talks, For Now
There have been rumors about Russell Westbrook being linked to different franchises. One of them are the Miami Heat. But according to Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports, the Lakers have no plans to include Westbrook in a trade package right now.
Via Yahoo Sports:
“Los Angeles’ primary trade efforts at this juncture have centered around a much smaller outgoing package of Patrick Beverley, Kendrick Nunn and a protected future first, sources told Yahoo Sports. The Lakers approached Detroit with that proposal in hopes of prying away Bojan Bogdanovic. The pick in question, however, was heavily protected, sources said, and the Pistons seem keen to hold out for a more tangible draft asset to part with Bogdanovic.”
Fischer pointed out the fact that the Lakers’ current focus is finding a player that can be brought to the team with a trade package around Patrick Beverley, Kendrick Nunn, and a protected future first-round pick.
At the end of the day, the Lakers may shock everyone and go ahead by trading Westbrook. But it doesn’t seem like a good move, considering Westbrook is currently thriving off the bench.
