Despite a massively disappointing start to the season, the Golden State Warriors are still being treated like title contenders. As the defending NBA Champions, with the world’s greatest shooter in his prime, nobody is willing to count the Warriors out.

But without Curry, is it possible for the Warriors to stay afloat?

That’s the question the Dubs are facing right now after Curry suffered a shoulder injury in the loss to Indiana on Wednesday. The 2x MVP is scheduled for an MRI sometime today, but it seems safe to assume that he will miss some length of time as he lets his body recover.

How Can Warriors Stay Relevant Without Steph Curry?

In the meantime, the Warriors have to keep trying to win games — and it’s a task that may prove impossible without Curry on the floor. On First Take this week, Stephen A. Smith didn’t mince words when talking about his level of faith in the Dubs if Steph misses any significant amount of time.

“I don’t think they can [stay relevant] to be quite honest with you,” said Smith. “When we’ve seen what we’ve seen so far this season, Steph Curry is head and shoulders the star of this team and his level of play far exceeds that of any of his teammates. He’s averaging 29.6 points on 43% shooting from three-point range this season he’s been an absolute superstar and everybody else has paled in comparison… I would say the focus would shift to Klay Thompson and what he’s capable of doing and, to a lesser degree, Jordan Poole and what he’s capable of doing. That’s the only thing that has a prayer of offsetting the absence of Steph Curry and I don’t even think that’s gonna be good enough.”

It has been an up-and-down season for the Warriors. On one hand, they are 12-2 at home with some solid wins against some of the NBA’s best teams. On the other hand, they are 2-13 on the road and just look like a completely different squad. Of course, that’s with Curry on the floor and playing like an MVP.

Without him, things could get really ugly for the defending champs. Let’s hope Steph turns out okay and he’s able to come back before things get too out of hand.

Curry, 34, was averaging 30 points, 6.8 assists, and 6.6 rebounds per game on 43% shooting from three on the season before going down with his latest injury.
