  • Damian Lillard will request a trade if moved to a non-Miami Heat franchise
  • Lillard has not changed his stance on any other team
  • The Bulls are the most recent team linked to Lillard

The Damian Lillard trade saga has gone on for a while, and there’s no doubt that a resolution does not look to be close. The major complicating factor has obviously been Lillard’s desire to only join the Miami Heat, as that limits the potential return that the Portland Trail Blazers would get.

It seems as though Damian Lillard is continuing to try and force the Trail Blazers to acquiesce to his demand, and only move him to the Heat. A recent report from Barry Jackson of The Miami Herald revealed that if Damian Lillard gets traded anywhere but Miami, he will ask for a trade to the Heat.

“If Lillard is traded to a team other than Miami, he is expected to ask to be traded to the Heat.”

It is clear that Lillard is adamant about ending up in Miami. It is easy to see why he would want that sort of move. The Miami Heat just made the Finals and clearly need an offensive superstar of his level. He could be a difference-maker for them, and help them finally win a championship in the Jimmy Butler era.

Last season, Damian Lillard averaged 32.2 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 7.3 assists per game, while shooting 37.1% from 3PT range. There is no doubt that he is still a top 5 point guard in the league, and we’ll see where he ends up in the future.

The Chicago Bulls Have Expressed Interest In Damian Lillard

As of late, there are definitely a lot of teams that are entering the mix for Damian Lillard. It is easy to see why teams might be willing to take the risk on Lillard: he is that talented. A recent report revealed that the Chicago Bulls are interested in a Damian Lillard trade.

“The team that I’ve heard—I’ve made some calls, talked to some people—that is kind of the wild card, getting-into-the-mix team, is the Chicago Bulls… What I have heard in the last few days is that it looks like they might be trying to move LaVine as part of a multi-team deal to see if they can get into the Dame Lillard sweepstakes.”

There is no doubt that Damian Lillard could help the Chicago Bulls be a better team. However, the team shouldn’t move for him if he will cause trouble for the franchise and demand a trade to the Miami Heat, as that would be counterproductive and a waste of assets.

The Miami Heat Are Daring The Trail Blazers To Find A Better Offer For Damian Lillard

The Miami Heat clearly don’t feel the need to give up the maximum amount of assets for Damian Lillard as of right now. In fact, a previous report revealed that the Miami Heat are daring the Portland Trail Blazers to find a better offer for Lillard.

“They just want him for as little as they’re going to have to give up and they’re essentially daring Portland to go out into the marketplace — which Portland is doing — and see if they can find better,” said Woj.

It is quite likely that other teams have reservations about Damian Lillard, aside from his aversion to playing anywhere but the Heat. He has four years left on his deal and will be getting paid $63.2 million in his age-36 season. If Lillard declines, then teams could be stuck with a terrible contract.
