Ben Simmons' future with the Philadelphia 76ers has filled the headlines in the 2021 Free Agency. The 3x All-star seems ready to turn the next page in his career after spending four seasons with the 76ers.
It's no surprise since the Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons experiment has failed for the organization. The two stars who seemed inseparable once, are reportedly not even on talking terms right now.
Simmons has stopped answering calls from anyone affiliated with the franchise. This has led to one conclusion: that the 25-year-old will get traded before the new season begins.
However, it is easier said than done. Apparently, the 76ers are looking for a James Harden-like trade for Simmons. The chances of this happening are honestly too low.
NBA analyst Jon Krawczynski recently appeared on a podcast where he talked about the future of Ben Simmons.
"I don't think there is a huge market out there right now for him," he said. "There are a lot of teams that are now at this point in the season with training camps so close. They kind of want to start the season and see what they have. So I know that the Timberwolves at the table, I don't know if there are many others at the table right now... I really anticipate that the asking price could drop considerably over the next couple of weeks."
As Jon mentioned, Philly is simply asking too much for Simmons right now. But considering the fact that they haven't received any offer to match the asking price, it's a clear indication of what's about to happen.
Furthermore, a huge reason for the current situation is Simmons' inability to develop a consistent jump shot.
Ever since entering the league, this has been his one major flaw. But most expected him to resolve it sooner or later. Fast forward to 2021, Simmons is yet to add that weapon to his arsenal, which has quite possibly tanked his value around the league.
What are your thoughts on the current Ben Simmons situation? Do you think he will be traded before the season starts, or will he spend another season with the 76ers?
