The New Orleans Pelicans are entering an entertainment offseason where they could part ways with their biggest star, former No. 1 overall pick Zion Williamson. His stint with the Pelicans hasn’t been the best of all due to injuries, but some within the organization still believe in him.

On the other hand, Brian Windhorst of ESPN believes that the Pelicans will make Zion available for trade ahead of the 2023 NBA Draft (0:58 mark).

“One team that has emerged that really would like to move up from their spot at 14th are the New Orleans Pelicans, potentially hunting a star-caliber player, maybe like a guy like Scoot Henderson,” Windhorst said on Wednesday’s edition of “Get Up!”

“The Pelicans have had some cursory discussions from what I’ve been told. There haven’t been any offers made necessarily yet, but it makes you not really take too far of a leap to wonder… If the Pelicans are gonna make for the first time truly Zion Williamson available.”

This would be shocking to see, but this isn’t the first time the Pelicans have been mentioned in a potential trade involving Williamson. When he was on the court, he was an incredible player, averaging 25.8 points per game to go along with 7.0 rebounds and 3.6 assists.

The 22-year-old has the talent to become one of the best players in the NBA, which is why the Pels have been so patient with him. However, they appear to be running out of the same and would try to move Williamson away this summer.

When healthy, he can be really impactful for his team, which was confirmed by the Pelicans last season. They were the No. 1 seed in the West for a little while until Zion went down with another injury.

He earned his first All-Star call last season, and hopefully, he can keep the good level this campaign. If Zion can stay healthy, the Pels will be a threat to the rest of the West, but it seems like they won’t run it back with the player. The Houston Rockets have been mentioned as a potential landing spot for him, but we need to wait to see how this situation unfolds.

The New Orleans Pelicans Have Been Frustrated With Zion’s Behavior

In recent days, reports suggesting that Zion isn’t on the best terms with his team surfaced. They could be getting ready to move him away, and Windhorst’s words make this sentiment strong around the league.

Zion is only 57-57 during his career with the Pelicans, and it’s time for him to improve those numbers, become the leader of this team and take them to the promised land once and for all.
