The New York Knicks have been a quietly solid team this year, which surprised a lot of people since they were expected to be a middling team this year despite signing Jalen Brunson. However, the New York Knicks are clearly not listening to any of the outside noise, and it’s obvious that the team is simply focused on winning.

As of right now, the New York Knicks are a good team, but they are likely not among the Eastern Conference’s elite teams such as the Brooklyn Nets, the Boston Celtics, or the Milwaukee Bucks. Perhaps a trade could get them closer to being on that level.

We have created a trade scenario where the New York Knicks would receive Chicago Bulls shooting guard Zach LaVine. Amidst reports of Zach LaVine and the Bulls franchise not seeing eye-to-eye, this could be the perfect opportunity for the Knicks to try and get the shooting guard.

New York Knicks Receive: Zach LaVine

Chicago Bulls Receive: Derrick Rose, Evan Fournier, Immanuel Quickley, Cam Reddish, 2025 First-Round Pick (NYK)

The New York Knicks have reportedly been “monitoring” Zach LaVine’s availability in Chicago, and it is clear that they are at least slightly interested in adding him to their roster. This is the deal that could entice the Chicago Bulls into moving LaVine, and here is why both sides should do this deal.

The New York Knicks Add Another All-Star Level Player

The New York Knicks have succeeded this season due to the tandem of Jalen Brunson and Julius Randle, and they have both been playing at an All-Star level or close to it. However, they have been missing shot creation on their roster, especially when it comes to late-game situations. Perhaps Zach LaVine is the missing piece that could take the New York Knicks to the next level.

Currently, Zach LaVine is averaging 21.7 PPG, 4.4 RPG, and 4.2 APG for the Chicago Bulls while shooting 36.5% from beyond the arc. Overall, Zach LaVine would give the New York Knicks a dynamic scorer that can get buckets from all three levels and a player that can be the go-to scorer. His off-ball play will be useful when playing with a point forward like Julius Randle and a true floor general like Jalen Brunson, and he has shown that he can work well with other stars in the past. Though his defense does leave a bit to be desired, from an offensive aspect, Zach LaVine would be a perfect fit for the New York Knicks.

The New York Knicks would have to give up four players in this scenario, along with some young players and future draft compensation. Veterans Derrick Rose and Evan Fournier would be in this deal for salary purposes. Immanuel Quickley and Cam Reddish would be included in this deal as the young players for the Chicago Bulls’ hypothetical rebuild. The draft compensation would obviously give the Chicago Bulls an asset to use in the future in a trade or to pick a prospect with.

Obviously, this trade would be a bit of a high-risk trade due to Zach LaVine’s lengthy injury history. However, he is one of those players that a franchise should absolutely take a risk on, as he is a truly magnificent scorer when he’s fully healthy. It remains to be seen if and when the New York Knicks engage in trade talks with the Chicago Bulls about this deal, but they should absolutely try to get LaVine if he’s available.

The Chicago Bulls Get A Solid Package For Their Rebuild

The Chicago Bulls are a team that is kind of in no man’s land right now. They have some solid players on the roster, but they are nowhere close to being in the playoffs, let alone competing. Combine that with their perilous locker room situation right now, and all indications point to the fact that the Chicago Bulls should rebuild and start anew.

Obviously, trading Zach LaVine to the New York Knicks would give the Chicago Bulls a solid amount of players and assets for the future. Derrick Rose and Evan Fournier are both on long-term contracts, but both have commanded some trade interest from teams already. The Chicago Bulls could let them play up their value, then trade them later to contenders who require experienced, win-now players in the future. Immanuel Quickley is a promising combo guard who has already shown traces of being a decent shot-creator and perimeter defender. Cam Reddish profiles as a 3 and D wing as of right now, but he could develop into more if given the opportunity.

If the Chicago Bulls trade Zach LaVine, then they will likely trade veterans such as DeMar DeRozan, Nikola Vucevic, and Alex Caruso as well. This move could help them kick-start their rebuild, and by the time they trade all of their older players, they will have a ton of assets for the future, along with solid young players such as Ayo Dosunmu and Patrick Williams. The Bulls needing to rebuild is only a matter of time, and we’ll see if they decide to blow it up in the near future.

This Trade Could Help Both Teams

The New York Knicks are on a winning streak right now, and they likely want to keep that going. Zach LaVine would clearly improve the team’s talent level and help them win even more games. They could potentially make some noise with that addition in the playoffs.

The Chicago Bulls would get a number of solid veterans, young players, and draft compensation in this deal. That is the sort of package rebuilding teams generally get when trying to move a star. Though Zach LaVine’s trade value is clearly lower now due to him declining a little bit, the New York Knicks would still give the Chicago Bulls a solid amount for them to part with him.

It remains to be seen if the two sides eventually engage in trade talks regarding Zach LaVine. However, it is clear that trading him is the best option for the Chicago Bulls, and trading for him is a good move for the New York Knicks.
