Philadelphia 76ers Will Only Trade Joel Embiid For A Star, Says NBA GM: “Kawhi Leonard Might Be The Only Guy That Really Fits…”

The Philadelphia 76ers won't move Joel Embiid for anything less than a star player.

The Philadelphia 76ers had another disappointing playoff exit this season in the second round. There are many who expect the team to make changes this summer, though in what capacity that happens remains to be seen.

There have been some people that have suggested Joel Embiid could get moved, it is clear that it would take a lot for the 76ers to go that route. In fact, one GM who spoke to Sean Deveney of Heavy revealed that it’d take a “proven star” for the 76ers to consider moving the reigning MVP, and floated Kawhi Leonard as a possibility.

“It would have to be a star, a proven star,” the GM said. “They want one player back, an even swap. There are not many who fit that with Embiid. Kawhi (Leonard) might be the only guy who really fits, a guy they (the Clippers) might be willing to move off of and who would be in the same category as Embiid, a guy (Morey) would even consider. I am not even sure Paul George would fit, it would have to be Kawhi, that is just my guess. That’s how strong they are on Joel.”

It is clear that the Philadelphia 76ers won’t just move Joel Embiid just for the sake of moving him. He is a two-way force, and though some have criticized him for his poor conditioning, he is still one of the best players in the world.

In the playoffs, Joel Embiid averaged 23.7 PPG, 9.8 RPG, and 2.8 APG. This is clearly disappointing after we saw him dominate this year and win the MVP award, and we’ll see if he can have better playoff runs in the future.

Nikola Jokic Says Joel Embiid Deserved The MVP Award

After Nikola Jokic made the Finals, many suggested that Joel Embiid didn’t deserve his 2022-23 MVP award. Jokic poured cold water on those suggestions, stating that he himself believes Embiid should have won MVP.

“I don’t think about MVPs anymore,” Jokic said when asked about winning Western Conference Finals MVP. “People are just mean and saying that Embiid shouldn’t have won it. I think he should (have) won it. I think he was playing, if you watch it, extremely, extremely tough basketball through (the) whole season … He was really amazing in 82 games or how many games he played.”

Hopefully, we see Joel Embiid have another elite season next year and prove the haters wrong about him. Though he struggled against the Boston Celtics this year, all greats fail and become stronger in the end.
