The Phoenix Suns may be heading for a complete organizational reset, and Bleacher Report’s Eric Pincus has outlined a wild four-team trade that could reshape the entire landscape of the Western Conference.

The proposal would send Kevin Durant to the Houston Rockets and Devin Booker to the San Antonio Spurs, effectively signaling the end of Phoenix’s short-lived superteam era.

Here’s the full breakdown of the trade:

Phoenix Suns Receive: Devin Vassell, Harrison Barnes, Keldon Johnson, Jabari Smith Jr., Reed Sheppard, Cam Whitmore, Aaron Holiday, 2025 Suns First-Round pick (via Rockets), 2025 unprotected Spurs First-Round pick, 2027 protected Heat First-Round pick (via Hornets), 2029 protected Spurs First-Round pick and $12.7 million trade exception

San Antonio Spurs Receive: Devin Booker, Josh Okogie, Jae’Sean Tate, Jeff Green and $5 million trade exception

Houston Rockets Receive: Kevin Durant

Charlotte Hornets Receive: Malaki Branham, Jock Landale and 2025 Hawks First-Round pick (via Spurs)

The Suns’ Reset After Failed Big 3 Experiment

Let’s start with the obvious: Phoenix’s current formula isn’t working. Despite assembling a trio of All-Stars in Durant, Booker, and Bradley Beal, the team has underperformed — mostly due to a lack of depth, injury woes, and poor defensive personnel.

This trade proposal sends Durant to Houston and Booker to San Antonio, returning a haul of young players and future first-round picks, including Jabari Smith Jr., Reed Sheppard, Cam Whitmore, Keldon Johnson, and Devin Vassell.

In a league where flexibility is key, Phoenix regains both cap relief and future control after years of asset depletion. The additions of high-upside talents like Sheppard and Whitmore, plus the re-acquisition of their own 2025 first-round pick, put them on a sustainable rebuild path.

It’s the type of foundational reset that gives fans something to invest in — young players, growth, and future promise, rather than more overpriced disappointment.

Spurs Form New Big 3

The Spurs already made their move into the fast lane by acquiring De’Aaron Fox at the deadline. Now, pairing Devin Booker with Victor Wembanyama could vault San Antonio into immediate playoff relevance and possibly title contention in the near future.

Booker is still only 28 and entering his prime, and while Vassell, Johnson, and future picks are solid assets, this is the type of talent consolidation a team with a generational big man should be doing.

Booker provides San Antonio with a proven go-to scorer and clutch shotmaker, lightening the offensive burden on Wemby.

The Spurs also preserve core young pieces like Stephon Castle and Jeremy Sochan, while adding versatile role players like Josh Okogie and Jae’Sean Tate for depth. It’s a massive upgrade without mortgaging everything.

Rockets Get Their Superstar

Adding Kevin Durant, even at age 37, makes perfect sense for a Rockets team clearly shifting into win-now mode.

With Alperen Sengun, Jalen Green, Amen Thompson, and Dillon Brooks already in place and potentially re-signing Fred VanVleet, KD gives Houston a legitimate superstar who can still dominate in isolation and draw defensive attention.

They surrender some upside in Reed Sheppard and Cam Whitmore, but with limited minutes available for young guards, those prospects could stagnate anyway.

Durant fits cleanly with Houston’s two-way approach and playoff ambitions. And they only part with one key pick — the Suns’ 2025 first-rounder — which may land outside the lottery post-reset.

Hornets Get Young Talent And Draft Capital

The Hornets help facilitate this deal by swapping Josh Okogie for Malaki Branham, a 21-year-old scorer with upside, and landing the 2025 Hawks first-rounder from San Antonio.

For a rebuilding squad that’s stockpiling youth and draft capital, this is a savvy long-term play. It also allows Charlotte to preserve their full mid-level exception and avoid future tax concerns.

This trade helps everyone. The Suns embrace a reset. The Spurs go all-in around Wemby. The Rockets elevate into a contender. The Hornets build smartly for the future. It’s rare to find a blockbuster deal that checks so many boxes, but this one just might be it.

While such a seismic trade would take time, cooperation, and perhaps some star pressure to pull off, all signs point toward Phoenix making significant changes this summer. If both Durant and Booker are on the move, this proposal might be the most realistic and mutually beneficial path forward.
