The Los Angeles Lakers clearly need to make some additions at the trade deadline. A lot of times throughout the season, their lack of depth was exposed. Even though they have a solid enough big three featuring LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and Russell Westbrook, an additional impact player on the roster couldn’t hurt.

During the offseason, the Los Angeles Lakers targeted Sacramento Kings shooting guard Buddy Hield. However, they ended up trading for Russell Westbrook instead because LeBron James and Anthony Davis wanted him on the roster.

It seems as though the Los Angeles Lakers still have interest in acquiring Buddy Hield ahead of the trade deadline. Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports has recently revealed that the Los Angeles Lakers tried to acquire Buddy Hield from the Sacramento Kings for a Talen Horton-Tucker-centered package. However, the Kings ended up declining because they felt as though there was a more “lucrative” package out there.

There is no question that Buddy Hield would help the Los Angeles Lakers this season. He is an incredible high-volume shooter from beyond the arc. Hield is currently averaging 14.9 PPG in a sixth-man role for the Sacramento Kings while shooting 37.6% from beyond the arc on 9.1 attempts a game. His spacing would help Russell Westbrook and LeBron James have an easier time driving to the rim, and he is definitely a player that can provide value as a supplementary scorer for the team.

While the Los Angeles Lakers would obviously love to acquire him, it is clear that the Sacramento Kings think they could get a better return for one of the premier shooters in the league. Things could change in the future. Now though, perhaps the Los Angeles Lakers could turn their eyes elsewhere: players like Eric Gordon and Terrence Ross have been touted as realistic options for the team. Hopefully, though, we see the Los Angeles Lakers make a move for someone who can play their role well and help ease the burden on their stars.
