5 Draymond Green Trades The Warriors Should Immediately Accept

There are rumblings that the Warriors will consider trading Draymond Green for a game-changing player and we have five trades that could see a legend of the franchise leaving before the trade deadline.

The NBA trade frenzy is in full swing and not a single player seems safe anymore. Teams are being ruthless in 2025, and we have seen stars such as Luka Doncic and Khris Middleton leave their teams despite holding cache with their franchises. The Golden State Warriors find themselves on the clock because they have been very active in trade talks before the deadline.

With Stephen Curry still able to play at a high level but surrounded by an inconsistent core, Golden State is under pressure to make bold decisions to keep their championship hopes alive. And the boldest move of all? Trading Draymond Green.

Draymond has been the defensive anchor, the heart and soul, and the guy who helped define the Warriors’ identity during their dynasty run. But the reality is harsh: he is expendable right now and the player himself called that out earlier in the year that “all of us will be traded”.

The Warriors have already paid him with a fresh four-year deal before last year, but as the Western Conference gets tougher by the day, the front office is reportedly open to moving him if the right opportunity arises. This is all about making sure Curry’s last years in the league don’t go to waste.

Golden State’s front office is in win-now mode, and if trading Draymond Green can land them upgrades and re-open their championship window, then it’s a move they should seriously consider. Here are five trades they should jump on immediately if it means giving Curry another shot at the crown.

Reunion Trade For Kevin Durant

Potential Trade Details

Golden State Warriors Receive: Kevin Durant

Phoenix Suns Receive: Draymond Green, Jonathan Kuminga, Gary Payton II, 2029 First-Round Pick (GSW)

Bringing Kevin Durant back to Golden State would instantly reignite the dynasty. While Durant’s departure in 2019 wasn’t exactly smooth, there’s no denying his on-court fit with Curry remains unparalleled. It would also make Earth-shattering news if the Warriors were to trade Draymond Green (the man who made Durant leave) in a deal to bring back Durant, rumblings that have been happening today.

Durant is averaging 26.9 points per game this season on 52.4% shooting and brings the offensive versatility the Warriors desperately need in their hunt for another championship. Even without a recognized third star on the team, a duo with Durant and Curry would give the opposing team nightmares which is why there is a reported interest for a reunion.

Sure, giving up Green and Jonathan Kuminga stings, especially Kuminga’s upside as a future star, but KD’s ability to dominate in isolation and play seamlessly off the ball makes this a no-brainer for a team trying to maximize Curry’s prime.

The risk? Durant’s recent injury history. At 36, he’s no longer the unstoppable force he was in his prime, but the Warriors have shown they can manage stars on the back end of their careers. With a core of Curry, Durant, and Wiggins, Golden State would immediately become title favorites in the crowded Western Conference even if Draymond Green and Klay Thompson won’t be a part of it.

For the Phoenix Suns, this move signals a partial rebuild while keeping a competitive core and there has been news the franchise is fielding calls for Durant before the trade deadline. Draymond brings championship DNA and leadership to a team that’s lacked direction since their Finals run. Kuminga offers the potential to become a two-way star, and the 2029 first-rounder is a long-term asset for a franchise looking to retool.

A Gamble For Zion Williamson

Oct 30, 2024; San Francisco, California, USA; New Orleans Pelicans forward Zion Williamson (1) dribbles upcourt against the Golden State Warriors in the first quarter at Chase Center.

Potential Trade Details

Golden State Warriors Receive: Zion Williamson

New Orleans Pelicans Receive: Draymond Green, Jonathan Kuminga, Kyle Anderson, 2025 First-Round Pick (GSW)

Acquiring Zion Williamson is the definition of high-risk, high-reward. When healthy, Zion is one of the most dominant forces in the league, averaging 22.9 points and 8.0 rebounds this season while shooting 51.3% from the field in 14 appearances.

The Warriors would get younger and far more explosive, adding an inside presence they haven’t had since prime Andrew Bogut. Not to mention, Zion is clearly on the trading block and the Warriors are a reported destination of interest.

Paired with Curry and the team’s shooters including Buddy Hield, Zion would give Golden State the athletic edge they need to outlast younger teams in the playoffs. However, trading for Zion is a gamble given his inability to stay on the court.

He’s missed significant time in three of his four seasons due to injuries, raising concerns about his long-term durability. But the Warriors have taken gambles on injury-prone stars before (hello, Kevin Durant) and reaped massive rewards. Parting ways with Draymond Green and Jonathan Kuminga, plus a first-round pick, is steep, but if Zion can stay healthy, the upside is massive.

For the Pelicans, this trade would signal the end of the Zion experiment while bringing in championship-tested leadership in Draymond and a promising young star in Kuminga. The addition of Kyle Anderson, a savvy veteran, provides the Pelicans with depth and versatility. The 2025 first-rounder adds even more assets for their bright future.

Two-In-1 Trade With Utah Jazz

Utah Jazz center Walker Kessler (left) talks with guard Collin Sexton (2) during halftime against the Sacramento Kings at Golden 1 Center.

Potential Trade Details

Golden State Warriors Receive: Walker Kessler, Collin Sexton

Utah Jazz Receive: Draymond Green, Moses Moody, 2025 First-Round Pick (GSW), 2030 Second-Round Pick (GSW)

This deal would provide the Warriors with two pieces they desperately need: a defensive-minded center in Walker Kessler and a dynamic scorer off the bench in Collin Sexton. Kessler, one of the most impactful big men in the league, is averaging 10.9 points, 11.5 rebounds, and 2.3 blocks per game.

He’s a natural rim protector, which the Warriors lack in their current roster. Sexton, meanwhile, would inject a much-needed scoring punch into the second unit (18.3 PPG on 41.2% 3-PT this season), where Golden State has struggled to generate offense consistently. Trading Draymond Green for Kessler signals a philosophical shift for the Warriors.

They’d lose their emotional leader, but Kessler’s youth and defensive impact provide long-term value. Sexton, while not a star, can alleviate Curry’s offensive burden and keep defenses honest when Curry sits. Moses Moody and the draft picks are a fair price for two young, impactful players who fit the Warriors’ timeline.

From Utah’s perspective, Draymond would bring championship experience to a young Jazz squad looking to take the next step. Moody gives them another young asset to develop, and the 2025 first-round pick sweetens the pot. For a team not quite in contention, this deal is about building for the future while staying competitive in the present.

Getting Younger And More Athletic In Trade With Spurs

Potential Trade Details

Golden State Warriors Receive: Keldon Johnson, Jeremy Sochan, 2029 First-Round Pick (SAS), 2026 Second-Round Pick (SAS)

San Antonio Spurs Receive: Draymond Green

Adding Keldon Johnson and Jeremy Sochan would transform the Warriors’ forward rotation with youth, athleticism, and defensive versatility. Johnson, a 25-year-old averaging 12.3 points and 4.8 rebounds this season, is a versatile wing who can score at all three levels.

The 21-year-old Sochan, with his gritty defense and high basketball IQ (11.9 PPG, 7.5 RPG), would be a plug-and-play option to shore up the Warriors’ bench. Losing Draymond’s leadership hurts, but this trade positions the Warriors to stay competitive while retooling for the future.

This deal also allows the Warriors to maintain their trademark versatility. Johnson’s ability to guard multiple positions and stretch the floor fits perfectly alongside Curry, while Sochan’s high energy and defensive instincts fill the void left by Green. Additionally, the draft picks from San Antonio give Golden State more flexibility for future moves.

For the Spurs, this trade brings a proven leader in Draymond who can mentor Victor Wembanyama while keeping the team competitive alongside the newly acquired De’Aaron Fox. Green’s championship experience would accelerate the development of their roster, while his expiring contract ($25,892,857 next season with a $27,678,571  player option the following year) provides financial flexibility moving forward.

A Re-Tooling Trade With The Heat

Oct 18, 2024; Memphis, Tennessee, USA; Miami Heat forward Haywood Highsmith (24) shoots a three-point shot during the first half against the Memphis Grizzlies at FedExForum. Mandatory Credit: Petre Thomas-Imagn Images

Potential Trade Details

Golden State Warriors Receive: Haywood Highsmith, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Duncan Robinson, 2028 First-Round Pick (MIA)

Miami Heat Receive: Draymond Green, Lindy Waters III

This trade wouldn’t be flashy, but it addresses key Warriors’ needs: depth and shooting. Duncan Robinson may not be the player he was during Miami’s Finals run, but he’s still a capable floor spacer, shooting 38.1% from three this season.

Jaime Jaquez Jr., a promising youngster, brings energy and two-way potential as he is posting 9.4 points and 4.7 rebounds per game. Haywood Highsmith adds defensive versatility, while the 2028 first-round pick gives the Warriors another future asset to play with.

Golden State would lose Draymond’s presence, but this trade gives them more options to tinker with their roster. Robinson’s shooting would open up the floor for Curry, and Jaquez Jr. has the potential to grow into a rotation player in Golden State’s system. While it’s not a blockbuster, this deal could quietly keep the Warriors in the title hunt while giving them more flexibility.

For Miami, acquiring Draymond signals they’re ready to go all-in. His leadership and defensive prowess would pair well with Tyler Herro and Bam Adebayo in a new era that likely won’t involve Jimmy Butler, creating one of the most hard-nosed trios in the league. Draymond’s contract also gives Miami a chance to reassess their roster in the offseason.
